Day 01: Arrive Madras
Arrive Madras & transfer to hotel. Proceed for half-day sightseeing tour of Madras. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02: Madras – Mysore (by train)
Early morning transfer to railway station to catch Shatabdi Express for Mysore. Arrive Mysore & transfer to hotel. Proceed for half-day city tour visiting Zoological Garden & Chamundi Temple. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03: Full day Excursion to Belur & Halebid
Morning full day excursion to Belur & Halebid Temples at Hassan. Visit the finest examples of Hoysala Art. The soft stone used by builders was chiseled with the same fineness of detail as is found in the ivory and wood craftsmanship of the area. The temple at Belur is famed for its profusely ornamented exterior, and the one at Halebid for its sculptured figures and open-air museum. Also visit the colossal monolithic Jain Statue, 57-ft high, which stands on top of a steep bare hill. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 04: Mysore - Ooty
Leave by road for Ooty. Arrive Ooty and transfer to hotel. Afternoon, city sightseeing tour of Ooty (Ottacamund). Situated in the heart of the Nilgiris, it lies on a pleatu and looks like a vast park. To the northwest of Ooty are splendid downs resembling those of sussex while to the west, south and southwest, lofty hills add to the grandeur of the scenery. Visit the terraced Botanical Gardens, which are a landmark in Ooty, have many rare trees and flowering plants. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 05: Ooty - Cochin
Leave by road for Cochin visiting the most fabulous countryside. Arrive Cochin & transfer to hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06: City tour of Cochin
Morning, take a motor launch cruise on the backwaters of Cochin visiting the Bolghatty Palace the beautiful Dutch colonial mansion. You will pass islands with their traditional fishing hamlets, and the fisherfolk in their colorful costumes. After lunch proceed for sightseeing tour of Cochin, visiting the Jewish synagogue, built over 400 years ago. It contains beautiful Belgian glass chandeliers, and is paved with hand painted tiles from China. Day 07: Cochin - Kumarakom
Leave by road for Kumarakom. Arrive Kumarakom & proceed to hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08: Kumarakom - Periyar
Leave by road for Periyar. It is situated on the Periyar Lake in the hills of Western Ghats and is the finest sanctuary for viewing & photographing Indian wild elephants. Arrive Periyar & proceed to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 09: Periyar
Boat cruise on Lake Periyar. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10: Periyar - Madurai
Leave by road for Madurai. Arrive Madurai & proceed to hotel. Afternoon city sightseeing tour of Madurai, visiting the Meenakshi Temple where Dravidian temple architecture maybe seen in its exuberant baroque phase. Its Hall of a Thousand Pillars is fabulous and is filled with worshippers at all hours of the day. Also visit the Tirumal Nayak's Palace which is in a highly decorative monument at Thebes. Its enormous roofed arcade supported by 48-foot-high stoned pillars still stands; and griffins, lions and other monster gargoyles are to be seen everywhere. Overnight at hotel.
Day 11: Madurai - Trichy
Morning drive to Trichy, where you will stop to visit temples built during the 10th and 14th centuries. Later it became part of the Vijaynagar Kingdom, then passed into the hands of the Martha's and went to the British. Afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour of Temples. Overnight at hotel.
Day 12: Trichy - Madras
Early morning transfer to railway station to catch Pallavan Express for Madras. Arrive Madras & transfer to hotel. Proceed for half-day sightseeing tour of Madras visiting the National Art Gallery and Museum which house some beautiful temple friezes and South Indian bronzes; the Cathedral of San Thome; the Mylapore Temple, and "St Mary's Church". Overnight at hotel.
Day 13: Madras
Morning, excursion to Mahabalipuram - an ancient coastal port - south of Madras. Here you will see many sculptures and temples of typical South Indian architectural design; the Five Rathas - a group of monolithic monuments and animal figures carved out of solid rock; the Shore Temple, lashed by the waves of the sea; and the huge frescoe, "The Penance of Bhagirath". Overnight at hotel.
Day 14: Madras - Next Destination
Morning at leisure. Check out at 12 noon & transfer to airport to connect your flight for next destination. |
